Kraft paper packaging bag is different with common plastic pouch, it brings people eco-friendly, natural and premium vibes, ideal for healthy goods like nuts and beef jerky.
Traditional kraft bags use paper only, but mordern kraft paper is usually laminated with plastic or metallized film layers. They keep special looks and block oxygen, moisture and light well.
Makepac supplies various biodegradable materials. The bags still stay fully degradable after lamination.
The core purpose of packaging bags is to keep contents in proper storage conditions, so picking the right material matters a lot. Different materials block light, moisture and oxygen to varying degrees. (Higher scores mean better barrier performance)
MOPP/Kraft/PE
MOPP/Kraft/AL/PE
Kraft/PLA
Kraft/VMPLA/PBAT
The thicker the material, the better its barrier properties.

| Kraft/PLA | 100 ~ 180 | 80 ~ 120 | < 2 Months | Compostable |
| Kraft/VMPLA/PBAT | 8 ~ 20 | 8 ~ 18 | 4~8 Months | Compostable |
This degassing one-way vent removes extra air inside bags without letting outside air flow back in, it’s perfect for coffee beans and roasted nuts storage.
Gold hot stamping patterns get pressed onto bag surfaces under heat and pressure. Shiny gold markings stand out against matte kraft texture, lifting product grade and leaving eye-catching branded details for shelf display.
The specially molded zip strip glides smoothly with light hand force to seal or reopen pouches. It locks fresh flavour inside after every use, no extra tools needed for repeated daily opening and closing.
Kraft paper is made primarily of natural wood pulp, so the paper itself can break down biologically. Whether finished pouches remain degradable depends entirely on the films laminated with the paper.
Laminated with non-degradable PE, PP or aluminum foil, the whole bag loses its ability to decompose. When paired with biodegradable PLA or PBAT, the pouch keeps its compostable feature.
Please note that add-ons like air valves and zippers also need to adopt degradable materials to match the whole eco-friendly construction.
After you use the pouch, you need to sort it into the correct waste bin. Single-layer kraft paper bags qualify for recycling.
For the multi-layer kraft paper bags, different materials are laminated tightly. Machines cannot split paper, plastic and metal layers apart, so they cannot be recycled.
Keep in mind “degradable” and “recyclable” refer to two separate waste handling standards.

Depending on the material and quantity, Makepac offers a variety of printing methods to ensure the best printing results.
Gravure printing works well for clients who need large quantities of pouches whose artwork is fixed in the long term. The best advantage is the superior printing effects. It delivers rich ink layers and outstanding color reproduction, rendering deep shades, spot tints, gradients and metallic hues with high saturation, fully covering coarse kraft paper surfaces to create premium packaging for coffee and tea.
Ink is printed on the film’s inner side (reverse print) isolated from external contact, granting great rub resistance and strong adhesion. It supports full solid color fills and delicate gradient graphics. But after laminating with the printed plastic layer, this makes pouches non-degradable and non-recyclable.
Digital printing requires no printing plates and supports small batch orders. It matches customers with various artwork drafts and frequent design adjustments. Production turnaround is swift, and sample can be even finished within one day.
It prints on plastic layer or directly on kraft paper, removing the need for laminated plastic print layers and keeping the bags fully biodegradable.
But digital printing cost much higher. Ink laid bare on paper sticks weakly with thin coverage. Heavy black and large dark prints often reveal the brown kraft base underneath.
Flexographic printing suits kraft paper pouches better than other printing methods. Eco-friendly water-based ink is soft and has low VOC, it can conform well to rough kraft surfaces, avoiding ink cracking and tearing of thin paper stock.
Its pricing sits above gravure printing yet cheaper than digital printing, and plate production remains mandatory. But thin ink coating causes poor hiding power for dark tones. Fine gradients and tiny text lack the sharpness seen in gravure prints, and intricate designs fail to deliver rich layered visuals.
Kraft paper thickness is usually expressed in grams per square meter (gsm).
The table below lists the conversion relationships between gsm and common thickness units.
| Paper Weight (GSM) | Thickness (MM) | Thickness (Microns) | Thickness (Mil) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 45 GSM | 0.06 MM | 60 Microns | 2.35 Mil |
| 60 GSM | 0.07 MM | 70 Microns | 2.75 Mil |
| 70 GSM | 0.08 MM | 80 Microns | 3.15 Mil |
| 80 GSM | 0.10 MM | 100 Microns | 3.95 Mil |
Kraft material carries a natural, textured matte finish. It looks premium and attractive, greatly lifting the overall grade of packaged goods.
Flexo, digital and gravure printing all apply to the paper. One-way air valves and tear-off zippers can also be fitted on pouches.
It works with biodegradable laminated films. Discarded bags break down fully in industrial compost, matching consumers’ demand for green products.
Multi-layer builds with metallized or aluminum foil block light and moisture well, keeping food’s original taste intact for a long time.
